Discussing anything with you is pointless.
The sad fact is that in Britain and America there is a large group of badly educated, ignorant, tunnel-visioned and very dangerous people (look what happens when they are allowed to control things) whose whole world of ideas and values needs to be resisted and eventually jettisoned. Stupid barbarians, basically. The exceptionally intelligent and well-read European intellectual Cornelius Castoriadis put it succinctly over 30 years ago - either we have a liberalised form of democratic socialism or we will descend into barbarism. The pictures of barely literate US soldiers standing grinning over the bodies of torture victims proves beyond any doubt that he was absolutely right.
The 'new barbarians' are at the helm. Discussing matters with them is pointless. They need to be beaten politically, and very soundly beaten at that. The big problem is that these people have too much influence in the immensely powerful mass media and they have privileged access to government. Many of them are rich, and simply buy their influence.
Either we get rid of them or suffer more terrorism as the inevitable reprisals for their barbaric actions over the past 56 years begin to gather pace.

Not that your answers were not completely predictable...I just prefer not to assume.
Until you are actually willing to discuss something instead of merely preaching your agenda, I would agree that there is no further point in my carrying this conversation further. (Hey, at least there is one thing we can agree upon!)

Chris - while no one strives to be a martyr, I envision the day when there's a monument in this Square inscribed with the names of those good, decent and brave people who were made to be martyrs on that day. A monument will not ease the sorrow of their loved ones, but it will help to serve as a reminder to everyone that humans are capable of great evil, but they are also capable of great good.
There was a great battle at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania during the American Civil War, one in which both sides lost many lives. President Abraham Lincoln was called on to dedicate Gettysburg as a memorial. In his short address he made a point which I believe also applies to the fallen at Tiananmen Square:
"In a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave, living and dead, who struggled here have hallowed it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here."
(Lincoln was partly wrong, people did remember what was said there!)
