I thought Robbie William's take on the whole piracy issue was hilarious. Not because I dont take it seriously and think he's a prat, but because he was sitting pretty with a fat cheque in advance, and laughing at the music industry. Mean, but hilarious.
LOL!

You know, when I first learned about P2P file sharing I was quite excited about it, but as I try to get interest in my own music I realize that having easy access to absolutely any artist you want at any time for free actually diminishes independent artists' ability to compete within the industry. File sharing actually hurts indie artists, not because we're not getting paid or people are subverting copyright, but because legit d/l sites with wonderful and interesting music is bypassed for Kazaa where people will search out the artists who already have all the main exposure we all crave (radio, tv, etc.). If piracy is brought under a bit of control two things will happen. More artists (including major label artists) will offer free legal music in more places, and more listeners will seek out new music from different sites. Ultimately, curtailing file sharing benefits will benefit musicians and listeners within legal means.

I agree absolutely. I am in two bands - one does live gigs (Hei Sha) the other only creates and records - thats called Ignition. Ignition will be releasing a CD in the coming months, but now have to decide whether we will allow the songs to be only streamable or downloadable on our sites; knowing full well that even if we sell ONE CD, the tunes will likely be out there, freely available on Kazaa. I even know 12 year old kids who use kazaa!
Everyone wants everything for free, frightening. As for me, I have no clue how to use file sharing and am terrified to allow anyone into my computer - isnt that how it works?

To really peeve off the fanbase, I think "Metallica" won the idiot-bad PR prize by going after individuals/schools with legal action on a personal level. That'll endear ya to the unwashed masses!!
