Could be, Mike.
But sometimes false info is released for two purposes:
1. to throw the bad guys off (confuse them)
and
2. to set a trap - by intentionally luring his armed supporters into a specific area.
And, by the way, it's the Jihadi's (e.g. Osama, the Taliban) that use the term "infidels" for anyone who isn't Muslim (or Muslim enough!).
Islam believes that the world is seperated into two "houses". Lands where a Muslim government rules and the Holy Law of Islam (Sharia) prevails is called in Arabic "Dar al-Islam" ("House Of Islam")
The rest of the world, not ruled by Islamic government and Sharia law is "Dar al-harb" - the "House Of War". The world that has not submitted (the word "Islam" means "submission") are all "infidels".
To refer to Saddam's or Bin Laden's gangs we use terms like "thugs", "psychopaths" and "terrorists". But according to them, it's all the rest of us - all over the world - who are "infidels". But when you submit ("islam") to them , then you're okay!

I think telling reporters that Saddam is in "Camp Cropper" was nothing else than a huge mistake (not a 'false trail', not a trap).

An infidel is a person without faith in a god.
In an Islamic context, infidel is the common translation of Arabic kufr (Kafir).
Kafir is an Arabic word meaning "denier" or "concealer". In a religious context it is often used to mean "infidel", "unbeliever", i.e., a non-Muslim. The noun kufr means "blasphemy, atheism".
The correct use of the word kafir in Islamic theology does not include either Christians or Jews, who are covered by the term Ahl-e-Kitab, or "People of the Book", because they are considered recipients of divine revelation from Allah.
