Ha ha.... yea Fuquay-Varina... one town named Fuquay Springs after a family that lived there and Varina after varina Howell Davis- Jefferson Davis' wife seperated by a train track was united in about 1964. When we moved away in '75 there were about 3500... now it is a bedroom town for Raleigh and about 20,000. There were 3 stop-lights in both towns when we moved away.

I've never heard it used before, but put in context my guess its someone who bothers god with their nonsense and ravings, and also bothers other people with raving nonsense about their god...

I thought of some examples"

like "god, please kill all those nasty Muslim people they hate us preciousssssss Christians" or "god, I want all that lovely oil, please can I have it" or "god, forgive me but I must kill 100,000 innocent people today because they must be freed, and is it OK if I do it in your name?" or "good night god, today I spread your word by killing everyone who didnt agree with me, I hope I can sit on your right hand on judgement day"....

If that doesn't bother God I dont know what will...

And people who bother me with their rubbish.. leviticus and apocalypse and gods people and the bible says GAHHHHHHH.

hahahahahahahahahaha God Botherer!!! I love it!

You got it, kid.

And you are the famous Rock Chick from Hong Kong? Wow!

Permit me to introduce myself - Russky Joe, half-Russian, half-Brooklyn, Cossack, knave of this parish, protector of the poor, scourge of the rich and defender of young rock chicks from the advances of dirty-minded old pervs from the bible-belt, at your service ma'am.

So a God botherer is someone who pushes religion onto others? It's a misleading expression then! hahahahaha I initially thought it was about people who are bothered by God. (bothered as in 'upset')

Well i don't know any God botherers online or off! hahahahahahhahaa I know lots of people who believe in God.

What about people who have sex and say "Oh God, that was fantastic", are they labelled god-botherers?

Is there a clear border to cross to become a god-botherer?

Or is this a Joe 'thing'?

It is ok rusky! I had tried very diligently to wash out the brain washing... However at one time I could recite over 650 Bible verses not including whole passages such as the Beattitudes, Sermon on the mount, 23rd. Psalm etc...

Now I am just your average magick practicing Pagan of the Stregha vein...

Works for me...

Listen, doll, in my book they're labelled "ungrateful". They should be frickin' thanking me, not god.

"Always rebellion with at least a portion of the younger crowd for the sake of nothing but itself...as predictable as the rising of the sun."

Frickin' ada, you and your frickin' "eternal truths". Gimme a break, will ya?

You're like frickin' Hi-Hoe Silver, ya watch too many frickin' 50s movies and believe 'em.

A lot of rebels do have a cause.

Like this guy:

Now, wasn't he handsome, girls? Almost good-looking enough to be a Cossack! :bcool :aua

...interesting thing is that I'm quite certain that if Paganism was what was taught in many private schools that we would now see a rash of Christianity breaking out among the upcoming generations. Always rebellion with at least a portion of the younger crowd for the sake of nothing but itself...as predictable as the rising of the sun.

Hiya there Joe, nice to meet you. half Cossack hmmm? We havent seen many of those around these here parts :D :w

I live in HK, don't know about famous, sure you're not mistaking me for someone else? :D Anyway, I am a mix of a few different races, Indian being the most prominent and have lived in HK for 13 years. I sing and songwrite, and do rock gigs as well as theatre stuff...

Anyway back to topic, who came up with the phrase god-botherer, and why can't it mean people who bug God with rubbish too (besides the fact that you don't believe in God). BTW, I'm a Christian who gets intensely irritated by GB (God Botherers or George Bush, take your pick) and I dont really care who is or isnt or what who follows. :dunno as long as they dont shove their holy book down my throat. I had a colleague who would drive me nuts by writing biblical quotes on the white board everyday. :h

Funnily, growing up in India, I had classmates from many religions - Hindu, Muslim, Bahai, Sikh, Protestant, Catholic, to name a few, and all the different sects of these religions too... the only people who tried to push stuff down my throat were the nuns and evangelists. My dads best friend was Muslim and he never tried to convert us or belittle us - he was the most loyal loving friend anyone could have; in college we were a gang of five friends consisting of two hindus, one muslim, one protestant and one catholic (me). We only discussed religion to explain our practices, but not once did any of us try to convert the other. We lived in each other's pockets, literally, exchanged sweets and goodies at each others festivals, attended events like weddings and family dos without even batting an eyelid. Isn't that great?

Acceptance? you bet! It seems strange to live in a world where people say one is better than another when you grew up with acceptance. :dunno

anyway, to bed now...
