I know we're now in the 21st century, but, apparently, in this nation of enlightened citizens, some number of us (that can accommodate seven zeros) believes in a form of biblical prophecy that comes not so much from the Bible, as from evangelists.

Here’s a summary of what most of the tens of millions who read the Left Behind series of novels believe:

“According to this narrative, Jesus will return to Earth only when certain conditions are met. When Israel has been established as a state. When Israel then occupies the rest of the biblical lands. When the Third Temple has been rebuilt on the site now occupied by the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa mosque, and then when legions of the Anti-Christ (read Muslims) attack Israel. This will trigger a final showdown in the valley of Armageddon, during which all the Jews who have not been converted will be burned. That’s when the Messiah returns to Earth.

“The rapture occurs once the big battle begins. True believers will be lifted out of their clothes and transported to Heaven where, seated next to the right hand of God, they will watch their political and religious opponents suffer plagues of boils, sores, locusts and frogs during the several years of tribulation which follow.”

Some say that the president and many of his closest associates believe in this otherwise comical fairy story. Certainly legions of the president’s followers do. A look at U.S. foreign policy since the last election suggests the president’s certainty and inability to acknowledge error are all of one piece: He knows he’s fulfilling prophecy, so the details and problems along the way cannot be significant. At the least, his refusal to admit mistakes or adjust course seem to stem from his born-again beliefs.

How nutty are these people? Scared now? Are you frickin' SCARED?

Well, joe, you're just all mixed up. Some of what you say is true, and some of what you say isn't...but what you do say would be good for inciting a lot of hatred towards Christians from Muslims. That part is one of your lies. Congratulations, joe...what a plus.

Hatred begets hatred...when left unchecked.

wtf are you talking about, hatred?

I would pay extra taxes for your medication, I really would. Believe me.

Yeah, the islamic extremists are just as nutty as you. Didn't I already say that? Like this lot:

"Islamic extremists around the world are conducting a reign of terror against members of other faiths and openly persecuting them. Muslim asylum seekers in Australian refugee camps are persecuting other detainees who belong to different religions. Amnesty International reports that minorities in these detention camps are suffering from psychological trauma as a result of the constant discrimination they face while being locked away for months while their applications for asylum are being processed. Christians and Mandeans (a small Iranian grouping which follows John the Baptist) have been stoned, physically assaulted and sexually harassed. In one case, a Muslim leader called for a Jihad against Mandeans. One blind Mandean man was seized by Muslim men, held down and defecated on before being locked in a toilet. Non-Muslim girls have faced sexual harassment and verbal abuse because they do not wear the Islamic veils."

As well as locking people in the john they also fly planes into our skyscrapers, remember? So our good Christian leaders drop bombs on the 'anti-christs' and flatten their cities.

And so it goes. On and on. And it'll frickin' go on and on as long as these dumb religions have a hold on people.

I ain't got the word-power to put it as well as this Brit novelist:

"The 20th century, with its millions of supernumerary dead, has been called the age of ideology. And the age of ideology, clearly, was a mere hiatus in the age of religion, which shows no sign of expiry. Since it is no longer possible to disparage any single faith or creed, let us start disparaging all of them. To be clear: an ideology is a belief system with an inadequate basis in reality; a religion is a belief system with no basis in reality whatever. Religious belief is without reason and without dignity, and its record is near-universally dreadful. It is straightforward - and never mind, for now, about plagues and famines: if God existed, and he cared for humankind, He would never have given us religion." - Martin Amis

You f*ckwits. Mass re-education, that's the answer. Stop the religious goonies indocrinating children. Secular people the world over, white, black, Arab, should fight a civil war of words against the religious nutballs. No violence, but humiliate 'em mercilessly till they shut up and f*ck off. And I'm starting with you, buttercup. No quarter given.

No "quarter" asked for, joe. But you can speak until you have no air left, and it will change nothing...of this I can assure you.
