Nearly ninety percent of Senate Democrats took money linked to disgraced "Republican" lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to a list compiled by the Republican National Committee.
Though reporters continue to insist that the Abramoff imbroglio is "a Republican scandal," 2008 Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton took more than $12,000 in tainted cash.
Compared to the party's 2004 standard bearer, however, she's a piker. John Kerry raked in nearly $100,000 in Abramoff-linked donations.

"Taking money and/or gifts and doing legislative favors in return is a crime. Some Rs are implicated in this kind of activity in the Abramoff case. No Ds are implicated in this way as of yet. The vast majority of people, both R and D, who received contributions from Abramoff clients are not likely to be guilty of anything in this case.
Is this so hard to understand? Is it going to be another dumbass talking point that never dies, like "we found Saddam's WMDs?""

"Appearing on the December 16 edition of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, Anne Kornblut falsely claimed that Abramoff had given contributions to Democrats. Yet a Media Matters for America search of the Center for Responsive Politics database of campaign contributions did not find any contributions from Abramoff to Democrats or Democratic leadership political action committees."

ABOUT MEDIA MATTERS FOR AMERICA
* Self-described "progressive" media "monitor" which tracks content that "forwards a conservative agenda."
* Creation of Democratic Party funders and operatives
* Headed by confessed liar and political turncoat David Brock
* Attacks conservatives for holding conservative opinions
* Lied about its connections to groups affiliated with leftwing financier George Soros
Established in May 2004, Media Matters is a self-styled "Web-based, not-for-profit…progressive research and information center" whose animating mission is to "systematically monitor a cross-section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation." Falling under the category of "misinformation," however, is not merely "news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible," but also that which "forwards the conservative agenda."
Functioning, in effect, as a clearinghouse for leftwing outrage, the organization's stock in trade is feigning outrage at perspectives that clash with the far-left prejudices of its directors. As a consequence, Media Matters has a well-earned reputation for portraying honest differences of opinion as lies or worse.
In this, the organization takes its cues from its founder and CEO, the self-described former "right-wing hit man" turned left-wing hit man, David Brock. A former dirt-dishing reporter for the conservative magazine The American Spectator in the 1990s, Brock today claims to have undergone a political epiphany. He has renounced his past writings, critical of liberal figures from Anita Hill to President Bill Clinton, as a confection of lies and slanders. But the evidence suggests that while he now identifies with the political left, his modus operandi is unchanged. As his tell-all books, Blinded By The Right and The Republican Noise Machine demonstrate, dishing dirt and distorting the facts remain his stock-in-trade.
