Haha, not quite.

You see out dear Reverend 9 Volts here assumed that since the Cannes film festival takes place in Cannes, France, the Jury would consist of a bunch of French people (and since "france is mad at usa" the movie would win. Too much FOX news? ;) ). I merely listed the members of the jury and executed a mathematical study to show him the reality.

Since it seems 'we' already know that Hollywood pushes the Democratic agenda (what was those meetings with Hollywood staff and the Bush admin about? Feeding the enemy fodder to take the sitting admin down with future films?), does that mean that Mr Moore actually has a pretty good chance to get nominated for another Oscar, in spite of your statement above that he will not be?

About Linda Chavez: if she had not understood it until now; Farenheit 9/11 probably is not the kind of film she'd like. I could have told her that before she went with the family to see something she thought would be the second coming of "Sound Of Music".

She doubt Farenheit 9/11 will make any money in the US, "if and when it finds an American distributor". She foresees a box office disaster for Roland Emmerich's new film. Then again she mistakes al Qaeda for a government of a country, so I wouldn't make any bets guided by her, uh 'clairvoyance'.

At least in America, such a film would be defined as "in bad taste". It doesn't stand a chance.

I take it you have seen this film?

I thought france, well then; Europe it is...

Four of nine judges come from Europe. Still no majority.

hollywood will probably nominate him again just to tweek bush if he is still in office.

DT says "Not for this thing he won't", then again he claim that Hollywood support dems.

I agree with you, Rev: chances are high that Moore gets another nomination.

Everybody is/was expecting a reprise of Shrek. I guess nobody read the reviews! ;)

...besides, it's hardly conclusive with a new movie playing over Memorial Day weekend. Do they have anything like that in Europe?

Weinsteins finalize ‘Fahrenheit 911’ deal

They are buying back film from Disney and distributing themselves

Seems we can strike the "if" out. It would be interresting to be able to measure how much of the indirect promotion Disney and columnists like Chavez has provided the film during all this.

86 million in three days is 86 million in three days.

Other debuting films during Memorial Day Weekend:

Raising Helen - $14.0 m

Soul Plane - $ 7.0 m

Saved! - $ 0.4 m

The reality is that "The Day After Tomorrow" is the third most anticipated movie this year and will probably gross enough to be placed in the top 5, US Domestic, box office chart of sales.

No matter how you may feel about this movie (I hold Emmerich in healthy contempt. Independence Day, Godzilla. Incredible junk for the masses wrapped in shiny paper.), it is pretty certain that it will rake in more money and surpass 50 First Dates, Van Helsing, Troy, Along Came Polly and Starsky and Hutch that at the time has collected more turnover, due to the fact that they have been running a lot longer.

This this is far from the box office failure that Chavez predicts, quite the contrary in fact.

Then again, this was in Europe...and movies do seem to be directed at giving people what they want to see and be true, rather than an impartial view of what really happened.

Correct, DT. It's a human fallibility to find something that justifies a prejudice rather than to objectively consider the reality. e.g. in Europe, Jews have been demonized since at least the Middle Ages. But in order to conduct such abominations as the Inquistion, the Holocaust or the current rise of European anti-Semitism, they had to have a "rationale". It's as in Moore's case - what I call an "irrational rationale". Rather than admit or confess to a hatred, it's revamped, repackaged and glorified as a virtue.

Probably the best source on the web for critical, non-biased & objective examination is Spinsanity.com . They un-spin BS no matter the source of the spin, tossing out politics & spin to get at the facts (they take all views & "wings" apart). They're like the "Joe Friday" dedective on the old "Dragnet" series, where Joe would ask for "Just the facts, M'am", not the subjective, personal spin. For some examples of the factual analysis of Moore's "documentaries" and books, use their search function to look up Michael Moore.

Spinsanity - search

Moore is not highly regarded (to say the least) by those who have checked out his stuff out and then did the fact-checking. (e.g. he edits stuff into existing footage that wasn't there originally, ala Orwell's "1984".) When he was confronted with a multitude of his overt and subliminal factual errors (read: "lies"), his only response was that he was a comedian and you don't hold comedy to factual constraints! :bigeyes

So, by his own admission, using his stuff as a reliable source would be like basing one's intellectual discourse on a "Three Stooges" skit. :aua

(Nyuk, nyuck, nyuk....Oh, a wise guy, eh?...)

...happened this weekend.

Right now "The Day After Tomorrow" is at #3 in the top selling boxoffice chart for 2004, on the #2 we have "Shrek 2" and #1 currently "The Passion of the Christ".

Films certain to make better positions than "The Day After Tomorrow" in the 2004 total are; "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and "Spiderman 2"

Anti-semitism and brutality - if you knew a bit more about European history you could have mentioned the Highland Clearances, The Bloody Code and the French Post-Revolutionary Terror etc. etc. - were indeed abominations in Europe. I agree. They stain our history and they will never be allowed to happen again.

Now, Ron, here's your chance to answer my question and use your preferred 'objective consideration'. What are the inherent flaws in US style free-market capitalism and what abominations stain US history and continue to occur?

C'mon, Ron, here's your chance to be objective. If you don't give a good answer here you are going to look extremely foolish and hypocritical, and that's a fact, old fruit.
