Thursday was the end of a three-month terrorism truce purportedly offered by Osama bin Laden to Europe.
On April 15, a taped message by a man identifying himself as Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda terrorist network, was broadcast on Islamic satellite networks, calling on European countries to accept an ultimatum. CIA officials have already said that technical analysis of the recording indicates it is authentic.
"I announce a truce with the European countries that do not attack Muslim countries," the voice said. "The door to a truce is open for three months," it continued, adding the time frame could be extended. "The truce will begin when the last soldier leaves our countries," namely Afghanistan and Iraq.
"It's not about whether there are going to be any attacks, but rather only when and where," said journalist Elmar Thevessen, who criticized Europe's unpreparedness and lack of a common strategy to deal with terrorist attacks.

The Europeans aren't going to get serious about it until they have a 9/11 of their own...perhaps it will take several, who knows. If Osama was smart, he'd stay out of Europe all together...right now he's got many of them against the Americans. Bringing Europe into the equation would work against him, not for him. (Sort of like how Hitler started a war on two fronts...also stupid.) He's good at hiding, I'll give him that...but not very bright, I think. Of course he could just be bluffing with Spain as the example to see if he can bluff the Europeans into capitulating to his demands, which I hate to say could happen...we'll just have to wait and see.

Excuse me, DT, this it utter baloney.
In the War On Terror, the US has the full support from Europe. Full, as in actively participating. (Remember Osama? The one we went into Afghanistan to get? Together? Do you know what troops are in Afghanistan that has been there from the start? Remember the reaction from Europe when this 'deal' from Osama went across the news?)
This support has not weakened.
Iraq, however, is not part of the War On Terror, it is not included by the "Enduring Freedom" mandate.
It is the excursion Iraq that has led so many nations to regard the actions of the US in an unfavourable manner.
Two completely different pair of shoes!
End of transmission.

I'll bet you actually enjoy arguments, Galmin...nothing wrong with that, just a hunch.
I was talking of the people...not the countries. But attitudes of the people will eventually be reflected in the heads of these countries if they wish to stay in office. I guess I should mention Spain here, also.
But I reiterate...Osama would be smarter to stay out of Europe for the time being.
