By the time, if that time ever comes that the troops leave from the occupation, I don't think there will be a "Democracy". Maybe an oligarchy just like the USA. The country will be controlled by the Multi-Nationals. The Govt. structure will be an illusion of Democracy.

I have no doubt that at some point the troops will be gone. As far as what type of governments exists, democracy (or whatever you choose to call it) is not perfect by a long shot....but it does allow, to a certain extent, some freedom for the Iraqis in determining their own destiny. But you will have to allow time for transition. Patience Phil....patience! The world does not operate according to any one persons time-table.

"allow, to a certain extent, some freedom for the Iraqis in determining their own destiny."

Their destiny will have been determined by the time the occupation ceases, if it ever does.

The privatization of the country will have been mainly complete. It's the real estate that is the controlling factor. The institution of any sort of Govt. is merely a facade.

You don't have a CLUE how much it will affect "you all" in the next 6 years or so economically. I can't WAIT to hear our foreign policy "adjustments".

Crank up your "Hate Generators"; I've already got the brew iced down to celebrate.

Phil, I'll say this for you: your point of view is extreme. We'll eventually be out of there....once we're sure Iraq can stand on its own two feet. As I said, patience Phil.....patience!

But since you do seem to think you have all the answers, what would you do in this particular case? What do you think the US should do that is in the best interest of the Iraqi people (NOT your anti-American agenda)? (No fair saying not to go in there.....that's already happened.) Let's hear your detailed plan AND THE TIMELINE! :laugh

"We will eventually be out of there."

The troops may be out in a year or two but the US companies that will have taken over what has been stated already will be there indefenitely.

No sense in me wasting time and energy in your request. I deal with what is real The occupation is real. Nothing I can do or propose will change that now. The objective has been met. How smooth is will go is anyone's guess.

Assuming you are correct about the US companies (which is something that is not yet "real".....if it ever will be), this would mean that your definition of "take-over" has to do with business rather than government. Interesting. Not that I totally disagree, but this would mean that business, not government, is what controls the world. That would also mean that business controls the government! Unfortunately, I believe that there is a great deal of truth to this.

No doubt...

Russia and France were among Iraq’s key trading partners before the war, selling billions of dollars in products through the oil-for-food program. They remain concerned that the United States and Britain would freeze them out of future commercial opportunities once the program is ended and sanctions are lifted.
