'Walking in Memphis' singer shot in head, survives

Tuesday, August 9, 2005 Posted: 1218 GMT (2018 HKT)

(CNN) -- Singer Marc Cohn, known for the 1991 smash hit "Walking in Memphis," was shot in the head Sunday during an attempted carjacking in Denver but survived, his manager said Monday.

Cohn has been treated and released from Denver Health Medical Center, his manager, Karen Malluk, said in a written statement.

Police said Cohn had performed at the Denver Botanical Gardens on Sunday night and was driving back to his hotel with band members when a man who was fleeing security officers tried to carjack their van.

The van's driver tried to drive around the gunman, who then fired, striking Cohn, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said.

"Marc Cohn was shot in the head above his right temple. The bullet was lodged in his head but has since been taken out," Malluk said.

Cohn's road manager, Tom Dube, was injured in the attack by flying glass that hit him in the face and eye, said Malluk. Dube has also been released from the hospital.

i don't know mike, i guess the getting the guns here is no problem, stores sell them, gunshows too- i think even department stores have them sometimes here. there's some sort of thing where people have to wait some amount of time between buying a gun and getting one but i'm not sure the rule there, doesn't seem long enough to me whatever it is anyway. so it's not the how i wonder about, it's the WHY of it that gets me. here, i think people look to our constitution and see the part about the right to bear arms and they go all nutty over that, so as a nation we feel this is a right but many of us question what that actually means in terms of kinds of guns and how many and why and all that. it's a huge political issue here. i just don't see the purpose of having them myself, unless they're for hunting meat for the table. i used to hunt and i did have a shotgun, but i got rid of it when i stopped hunting and that was before i got married so maybe about 20 years ago that was. since then there's no guns in my house that's for sure.

of course on the other hand my wife has a number of swords and spears but i suppose that's a different kind of thing.
