...."von" means "from" or "is of"...



"Ein Mann von schwarzer Hautfarbe" means word by word:

"A man of black colored skin" :)



The "von" can be typically found in many Names like

"Baron von Münchhausen" or "Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker",

where the "von" indicates that the following word/name is

that of a city or profession or something like that :)

A "von" in a name also can mean that the owner is a

member of the nobility :D

"Von" is clear to me now..



I so enjoy learning words in other languages..





I just put "Herr" into BabelFish, and it came back as "Gentleman"....



Does that sound right?



Herr Burn?

(hahahaha... - if that's the case, I doubt that any Germans who only know me "online" will address me as "Herr Drooly"......)
