Yeah - what Debbie said! The happy, live-loving, irony appreciating, good-spirited laughter.
"God is a comedian, playing to an audience too afraid to laugh." (Voltaire)
"Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD." (Bible, Old Testament, Zechariah 2:6)
Hmmmm...I suspect that last quote is directed to you good folks in Canada !

But, of course, it depends on which god you are referring to.
There are many, you know.
Zeus
Jupiter
Vishnu
Brahma
Shiva-Rudra (I like that name)
Osiris
Isis
Horus
Thoth
Hera
Juno
Anubis
Aphrodite
Apollo
Venus
Athena
Mars
Hephaestus
Triton
Neptune
Poseidon
Yahweh
Allah
Marduk
Tiamat
Ea
I can't think of anymore, right now...

Drooly -
Quote: that Voltaire quote is brilliant... - I had never heard that. But I won't forget it
Many people figure he (Voltaire, not God) was an atheist, but he was a Deist - as opposed to a "Theist" - who just didn't have much use for the powerful state-church organized religion of his time. Got him in a lotta trouble.
I'd agree with him that a basic, founding belief of the Almighty as being some Otherwordly Ogre who's dead set on humans being miserable isn't very attractive.
==================
Cyb-Org -
I assume that when the singular is used (God) - and even moreso if it's a capital "G" - it is in reference to The Real Thing, The Top Dog. Usually it's intended in a Deist sense, e.g. the "Big Guy Upstairs". In that sense, the term would be exclusive.
I conceive of a "god" or "gods" (small "g") as not being limited to a list of mythical deities. The list extends to whatever is at the center of a person's world/existence. e.g. TV can be a god, as can wealth, sports, food...the list is ad infinitum.

Thoth is the Ibis headed egyptian god of the moon and of arcane knowlege.
he gained a lot of new popularity early last century in several "occult" movements and pseudo masonic organizations and was maybe best popularized for modern audiences by Artist Frieda Harris and Poet Alister Crowley in "the book of Thoth"..
and of course he comes to the heavy metal crowd via the following linage
Alister Crowley==Magical mystery tour==Jimi page==Ozzy Osborne==etc..
sort of the apostolic succession of misrepreented mythology, missunderstood poetry and "in crowd" occultism..
heh
HA HA HA HA!!!
thoth is groovy though!
and Friedas paintings are stunning..
and ol' uncle Al really was an amazingly clever man, a sort of victorian Hippie who unfortunately succomed to opium addiction and dementia and a massive ego..
