I love the illustrations in fairy tales. and I still remember the smell of the hardbound copies of Grimms - smelt a bit minty. yummmmm.
I had a fairy tale book once with illustrations amongst which were hidden the characters in the story, and you could spend HOURS picking them out - for example, Ali baba and the 40 thieves - amongst the sparkling jewels in the cave were dozens of faces, and other items. And for Aladdin, there were carpets, genies, lamps, all hidden amongst say a castle, or a forest, or a box of gold and jewels. It was brilliant fun!
I think kids these days lose out a lot with TV and computers - its great that Harry Potter made kids read again.
Anyway, back to Sophie - ummmmm, she looks kinder than I imagined...
