sorry for my ignorance but in usa those are the 2 big brands.
i will stick to the dreadnought style as that is all i have really ever played.
which do you choose?
taylors have larger freta and barre chords are a zillion times easier to play.
elvis presley 1,4,5 stuff is tough on a martin. however i like their tones. i have a friend who has a nice taylor 410 about $1200. very balanced from string to string, but kind of weak sounding compared to a martin.
so i choose martin.

I have a Taylor 510. The 410 has Ovangkol back and sides....not as strong as the Mahogany on a 510. But the Martins are hard to beat. FWIW, I think Martins cost more than they are worth as well, but they are the best. Taylor would be my #2 choice with a much more reasonable price as well.
An additional note: Seagull guitars are the best "bang-for-the-buck" going. You won't find a better guitar for the money. Their $500 jobs are as good (or better) than others I've seen go for $1000.

Larrivee guitars are quite similar to Taylor, but are even better built.
And in my opinion, have a better tone....
I don't care for Martin....

we do not get furch ones here. another brand supposedly great are coilings (sp?). more pricey than martins. i am not to much an expert on accoustics. this martin is about the only accoustic i ever played.
