You need mastering, Tom.

I don't know the facilities in your area, but a low budget studio would charge around $200 (Canadian) to master a 45 minute CD. And the result will probably be ok - but I doubt it would be excellent.

If you need it fast and cheap, that's your best choice.

No way can you learn mastering software/hardware/theory with less than a month of SERIOUS study.

The other option would be to ask Mike Burn to help you.

But I think he's already overloaded with requests from internet artists, because for some strange reason he does World Class work for free.....

:dunno

Alright, alright, enough of the "yea, we know you do" thoughts.

Seriously, I wish to finally put a CD together because I actually have people asking for one. (I know, they must be nuts)

Anyway, my songs all seem to be EQ'd differently, and have slightly different volumn levels when put "back to back" on a CD.

My question is, is there something out there, that is cheap, that will let me "see" the EQing I am doing to each song, (Like one of those meters on a stereo) and make each song have relatively the same EQ levels as the next?

As far as volumn levels go, I think i can handle that with what I have.

I'd like to stay away from software if possible.

I guess with all of this blabbing, I'm looking for some kinda hardware meter that shows maybe a 15 band output.

Does this make any sense?

Need it fast!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Tom

Tom :)

What you are looking for is a "Spectrum Analyzer".

This kind of device can be used for the purpose you are

looking for, but is more intended for balancing amplifiers

and front/monitor loudspeakers (eq'wise) in bigger P.A. setups.

BK Precision 2630

Since the applications for such a device can be rather found

in professional environments, these thingies are expensive :D

(USD 2,000 - 10, 000)

You might have more fun with a free download of spectral analysis software :D

True RTA (free download)

But let me tell you, that it rather makes NO sense at all to use such a device in the hope, you can balance your mixes perfectly.

Let's put it in the most polite words... in case you don't hear

simply yourself that your mix is overcrowded with bass and

squeeky mid's (theoretical assumption for the thread here :D )

or lacking presence, you should let do the mix another person

like yourself, with approved ears :D

You may be able to "see" with a Analayzer what's happening, but this is only a hint and your ears are the last instance.

Furthermore, professioanl devices only make sense in combination with professional monitoring. I know... always this 'prof.' word... but it is like that. The equipment has to be "weighted" and selected for any spectral analysis to work and to be useful.
