Hey, you armchair sports fans talk a good fight. I was an amateur heavyweight in the early (pre-steroid) 70s. The problem was that in those days there was no cruiserweight - heavyweight - super-heavyweight distinction. Everone over 180lbs was a 'heavyweight'. At just over 200lbs I was a small heavyweight, and I was unbeaten until I was matched with a ponderous 250lb monster called Bob Muir (I'll never forget his name).
I out-boxed him and cut him to pieces for three rounds but I just didn't have the power to knock him out. About 30 seconds from the end my coach (Dennis Fields - I'll never forget his name either!!!!!) yelled "you've got it, Steve" and I turned my head just for a split second to acknowledge him, and WACK!!! a 250lb right cross landed on the side of my jaw. If you haven't done this, let me tell you IT F****** HURTS!!!! I was concussed for about 5 minutes and had to go to hospital for a check-up.
Bob, despite his size and fearsome appearance (he had no neck, I'm not kidding, just a bald head sticking out of a huge pair of shoulders), was a lovely bloke and came with me, really worried that he'd done some serious damage. I remember saying to him "if that's what I'm doing to other people I'm quitting". He agreed, and we both quit. So I'm with Debbie on this one now, I'm afraid. We became the best of friends and he became the roadie and door-minder for our band - we had very little trouble at our club residency from then on ......

thats a cool story Steve hehehehe
I watched the movie, the Champ, when I was very small. I cried and cried. And look what has happened to Mohammad Ali - because of his head injuries. No, not good.
Drooly what a terrible bullfight picture. OMG. Still its one of the risks, int it?
My dad used to hunt when I was a kid - influence of the british raj - then he gave it up and became a reformed hunter - refused to kill anything for sport. He still went fishing on weekends, but always ate his catch. I've been to too many homes with tiger head carpets and marble eyes to have any tolerance or stomach for hunting for sport.
Hey, Jamie Oliver is on now - gonna watch!
Cheers

but I HATE violent images/sounds really trully. If only you know how much I go out of my way to avoid watching/listening to violence... shudder
I'm not glad the guy got gored. I think bull fighting, fox hunting, etc etc etc should be banned forever.
And how about that WWF - is that funny?

Terrible bullfight picture, Debbers....?
True, it's awful.
But I call it justice.
These egotistical sadistic pri*ks purposely enrage the animals, then make them suffer a slow painful death in front of thousands of bloodthirsty insane humans.
Then sick human females throw roses at the matador.
Some people think it makes the matador look good in his little pink tights and silk slippers.
Me? I'm on the bull's side.
I call it justice.
