listening.

Phil - this is the worst I've ever heard you sing.

The bed tracks are nice, and (of course) well-produced.

Damn, Mike I like your electric guitar style.

Ooooo - Kate is doing some killer stuff too.....

The tune itself is pretty good... - Kinda hooky.

But Jesus, Phil... - your vocal SUCKS in this one... - you're off key in places, and not in sync with Kate. Damn - it sounds almost as bad as some dry Hobo tracks - just ask Mike....;)

If you wanna make this one public - you should re-do your vocal when you're in good form. On top of the new bed tracks.

I know you can do WAAYYYY better.

sorry.

But I know you like honesty....

well, don't let it bug you.

It's super hard to communicate clearly over the internet - not like being face to face in the studio.

And I'm amazed at what you guys accomplished there - living all over the Planet...

It's still a young science - internet music collaborations.

And you guys are true pioneers and trail-breakers.

So don't sweat the small stuff, buddy - onwards and upwards....

I am under some pressure with this song because it is to go on the 1st Comp CD from GetMeMusic.com and there is a time frame that is overdue. Some of the musicians took way to long to lay down their trks. Mike has other projects and he has done real well with this but I want it to be 90% of what I feel will be on a CD forever.

If it takes a few more days to get it to where I feel it should be then so be it.

I like the song, there are a few off bits in the vox.. (I thought I was the only one with off days hehehe)... I can see plenty of harmonies with Kates vocals - instead of unison.

This song could also have some screamy rock bits at the end "we dont talk, no no no, we dont ta-allllkkk" quite easily...but hey thats just me :D

cheers

Thanks Debbie. Yeah, I need to ask Mike to help me out with the problem areas. I think they can be remedied.

or ask Kate? Some bits are just screaming for harmonies.

You need to re-do the lead vocal.

When you feel good, and full of positive energy.

Don't waste your time trying to patch up that one.

One thing I've learned about singing......

Don't even bother touching the record button, unless you're really, really FEELING the message of the song.

There are limits in online collaborations.

One of the hardest tasks is to create harmonies remote.

Especially when both sides don't use techniques like SMPTE synchronizing.

Have you ever tried to frickle around 6 or 7 harmony vocal tracks without any synchronization at all? :)

That was the problem. I was not able to use 70% of Kate's vocals, because the files I got were all not on the timeline of the song (technically) and distorted (technically) and were different variations instead of sharp similiar harmonies.

Here in my studio..... NO problem. Remote a big problem.

I have to deal with what is there.

Nobody's fault, just a technical limit problem.

Errrrrr.... and Phil's voice WAS there :lol all the time :)

I offered Phil to sing his vocal track again, because it was sung anyway to a slightly downtuned guitar (tuned, but not to 440Hz. sharp) and it wouldn't sound well to tune the vocals up over the whole song length with a autotuner.

But besides all that, I wouldn't have sent the file, if I didn't thought that it has charme as it is with this tuning problems.. because we deal with a tearwrenching subject here :lol :lol :lol

It's a compromise, I knew that before.

Mike, I'm totally amazed at what you can do remotely.

I know a few things about studios, music and technology (not as much as you), but enough to imagine how difficult and challenging it must be to do what you've done with a computer and Artists living on other ends of the Planet.

All of you have my utmost respect for what you are doing - so don't let a few minor glitches along the way distract you...

So there was no track BEFORE the vocals? Ahhh. That would explain a lot. Singing against an already established track makes a LOT of difference.

In that case this is a fantastic job!

he can lay over a new main vocal line and I think this will be fine then, because he actually can sing
