I"M HERE!! I just woke up!!

I had a late night last night!!!! hahahahhahaha Had an amazing meal in this club where they come and tell you what they are cooking - I had lobster for my main course in fact cause I didn't want to end up with 5 courses of vegetables! hahahaha Also 1 course I had white asparagus and I mentioned that I only had this once before (when I was in Germany) and lo and behold the asparagus was from Germany hahahahaha Drinking expensive champagne and dining on fine foods - yes I could do this every Friday night if I was forced to :wgrin

hahahaha Ron!! Good to see you!! Well there's no menu and the chef comes out from the kitchen and suggests all these courses. The main course was lamb and I said I don't eat meat but I'll eat fish tonight (hoping they'd say lobster!!)

Sounds like a great time!

Used to occasionally go with some friends to a Japanese Restaurant - Fuji Ya - that was always a super outing, trying out new dishes and consuming lots and lots of warm saki!

Greek cuisine is excellent, too. Now there ya get lamb, haha. And baklava!

Mmmmmmmm....baklava....

You're vegetarian, Chris, right? What kind? Vegan, just not-meat eating or ?

Greek food is really nice. And a "Mediterranean Diet" is healthy, too! Unless you're a big a fan of things like baklava as I am, hahahahaa!

Well I describe myself as 90% vegan. I definitely don't eat meat - chicken beef etc. And I don't consume dairy or eggs.

But at situations like last night I go with the "I'll eat fish/seafood" cause it tends to embarrass my host more than anything - plus some places in the world it's really hard to get a good variety of vegetables. I may eat eggs if necessary but definitely no dairy. I prefer to not eat fish/seafood in general and dont choose it in restaurants with menus. I actually ate dairy and eggs for many years but NOT fish/seafood - I flipped them around recently.

Here with Chinese cooking, I can have tofu and soya substitutes very easily so in Chinese restaurants that's not a problem.

Cool. Did your vegetarian interest stem from anything in particular, Chris? e.g. health, spiritual, animal-rights concerns?

I read all about the health benefits. And gave up meat eating easily.

The animal rights has never really been that important. Ever been to a Cantonese butchers? You see the cow or pig hanging up and housewives choose the parts they want to buy and the animal is sliced in front of you. Proof of it's freshness etc. Frozen food like they have in western countries where you don't see the blood etc. I found most amusing when I first saw it. hahaha

Even the Chinese words for meat is 'cow-meat' 'pig-meat' etc. whereas in English the words are more disguised 'pork' 'beef' etc. Of course lamb, rabbit, chicken aren't hahahahahaha

Morally (for me) I do think it strange that some animals are ok to eat but others aren't - I DO question my acceptance of eating seafood/fish occasionally as I feel they are also animals. It's a personal struggle.

Anthony Robbins explained the dairy effects on one's body - I'd always wanted to hear clearly WHY dairy products aren't good for you. It gave me that extra little push to not eat dairy.

Phew- I hope I didn't bore you! :wgrin

I think it's interesting, Chris, the differing reasons people have for life-choices!

Western people who have spent time on a farm often have the experience you've mentioned of being closer to the process.

So "TV Dinners" (tasteless frozen meat, potatoes, veg) are not big sellers in the HK market I suppose? hahaha!

Sometimes with people I can joke with we'll say something like "pick up some dead cow meat" at the store(hamburger).

AR has some good charts about food/food combinations. I feel guilty every time I look at 'em :)
