One of my Ignition partners was telling me that he read a music marketing book which said the only way to sell music these days was



1. Sensationalism

2. Sensationalism

3. Sensationalism

4. More sensationalism...



But for a successful singer/songwriter I think that was an unnecessary loss of dignity there. Even Madonna wore those witch hats... I guess it becomes more acceptable if the artist is conventionally beautiful.



So to what lengths will people to go sell music? Whats the "worst" anyone's done?

Interesting question. A whole list of Shock Artists springs to mind. Alice Cooper, KISS, Ozzy etc. M.Manson has done some fairly outrageous things.

When there are literally millions of singer-songwriters out there, how are they suppose to get the attention without sensationalism AND performance?



I think sensationalism gets more press but if you're not out there performing, you are soon forgotten.
