Y'know what seems almost a constant in first teaching someone guitar, DM? A newbie tries to split concentration between their two hands - looking back & forth between the neck fingering and the strum hand. I tell a person not to worry about getting both in sync right away, but to concentrate on each one at seperate times. Like, while learning the chord positions and transitions, just bang away on the strings. Or when practicing stumming or picking, the chords/fingering isn't as impotant.

haha!

I was able to get some idea - although "plage" looks like "plague", I recognized it as "beach". (As in "Pauline a la plage", one of my aforementioned videos.)

I think it was on Jay Leno's US late night show where he said the upside to SARS is that the karoake bars in HK were empty, hahaha!

I play geetar - in moderation. Enough to accompany myself in public, but not when there's superior talent around, like Colin. hahahahahaha

I might be playing some on the lighter songs - otherwise I put too much energy into singing, can't do justice to both.

There's another thing....

I want to find out if this young lady has the potential/desire to sing.....

If so, I won't teach her scales or improv at all.

If she can be a singer, I'll focus on teaching her how to play the right chords/inversions/bass notes to simply back up her vocal.....

'tis a funny thing about playing and singing at the same time.....

You need to think about so many things....

But the best Music comes out when you don't think at all....

Funny...

A variant of the Yiddish "oy vey", I'm guessing. Kinda similiar to the old Minnesota expression of exasperation and/or amazement, "Uff Dah!".

Yeah, Ron, I play accoustic guitar. As a result when I try electric I'm very hard on the strings. I can do ballady stuff well on my own, but when it comes to rocky stuff I leap around and if there's space on stage (usually never enough) I use it a lot... so being tied to a guitar is no fun then.

Oyyyyyyyyyyyyyy means Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Just a rude manerism I have :laugh

Hokay, g'nite all!

Cool. I prefer dabbling with an acoustic myself, Debbie. Of course, one can always vocally mimic an elec guitar if one deems it necessary whilst playing acoustic. Now, Chris being an extreme guitarchick prob never has experienced that particular joy....

Another mask!

A model wears a beaded mask, part of the Hong Kong Collection from Dorian Ho, at Australian Fashion Week in Sydney May 7, 2003. Fashion Week is showcasing over 60 designers from Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
