There are certain songs that make overt use of the "buildup" and the "climax" as tools to bring about a certain elation or joy......at least that's how it works for me. The one song I've heard that does this more than any other song I've heard is "Thump the Clouds" by Adrian Legg (Guitar, and Other Cathedrals). It's one man on one guitar; no vocals.
On another note (hehe), an opera called "Tristan and Isolde" is a love story that originally lasted over 10 hours! The music resolves only in the last 3 minutes of the entire opera and people have been known to have heart attacks at hearing the resolving chord. It is a love story where the lovers kill themselves in the end. (Sorry if I spoiled it for you.)
