will it work on a basic @#%$ system? Will I be able to use mikes that need their own power supply? I'm really new to the intricacies of all of this.

I really want to make a good investment, not something I'll regret later.

cheers

I have a Shure mic but I also have Eurorack Mixer that has a built in phatom power. All I know is if you're going to get something for fx then get a vocal procesor and pretty much any mic will do. You can get a vocal procesor at a low price of $400.00 new. It may be the lowest grade but it's better than running just a mic through a mixer board with no fx on it.

I can get VXP here for about HK$5000, which is about US$625. (electronic stuff is cheaper here apparently...). And I can get the Shure Beta 87 for about US$375.

Is it worth it?

Alternatively, I just won the Shure SM 57 in Dixie's auction. Will that be just as good to use on stage? I intended to use it for some home recording through my computer.

I know. I've been researching mikes this past week. Sennheiser, Shure, Neumann - totally confused now. And they say the SM 57 is for accoustic instruments, but also for vocals. The SM 58 is for vocals, but whats the difference? the pop sounds, breathing, direction??? gah.

For stage a 57 or 58 will do all you need it to do quite well. Studio is a different story. A good studio mic and pre-amp is worth several thousand U.S.

uh.

skinny? - well kinda, I guess...

No - the guy on drums is the drummer.

I'm guitar and vocals, and I write the music and lyrics.....

but in this picture I'm teaching my stupid uncle muttly how to push buttons on these cheesy keyboards he gave me...

Debster, where can I hear your music?

Do you write?

Do you play an instrument?

keyboards, Drooly.

Is that little tyke you? hahahahahahaha. OK, I must get some baby pictures. Its not fair for you to have all the fun.

Are you serious? after all this and you haven't heard my music. I thought you said I could sing???

Anyway, I'll pretend to take you at your word, since it gives me a chance for ssp:

When I write my songs I play the guitar and figure out the chords, but my strength is vocals and making faces at the audience (still getting more gig shots in digital form, then you shall see); I'd rather stick to that on stage and in general production than mess up everything with mediocre guitar and compromised vocals.

Thanks for listening Drooly, and for the review! The backing track was done by a young chinese guy here, and wasn't quite what I was hoping for, but I had just started writing (1999) and was very new to the whole thing, didn't even know what I wanted! I think the only real instrument is guitar on the track.

Anyway, those are my early songs, have lots more unproduced, cause I'm still looking for an arranger/ producer in the boondocks that won't cost an arm and a leg. I've come a long long way since then both in songwriting and vocal performance, control, power etc, have been experimenting with my voice and a variety of styles. I have two bands - one, Ignition, is purely originals (brit rock-pop style - hopefully CD out year end), and the other band does a mix of rock covers (such as Beth Hart, Melissa Etheridge, No Doubt, some Hole, etc) and originals.

BTW, I heard your music too, was wondering who the singer was (us singers are like that). Beautiful tone.

cheers
