New idea for Get Me Music.com bands to sell their music....

OK, here's an idea I just had about how artists could sell their music.

Now, as we know, sometimes a consumer doesnt want to buy a whole CD if they dont like ALL the songs on it so I've thought of a way that the user could buy only the downloads he or she wants.

THE USER BUYS DOWNLOADS. (PICK AND MIX)

Now I know similar ideas have been done before, but check this out......

1) A Get Me Music.com artist/band has songs on their artist page.

Users can preview a track by streaming in lofi or hifi.

If he/she wants the track, they click on a "buy download" add-to-cart style button.

The price is , e.g., $1.00 per download.

2) The user "continues shopping" , previewing tracks, clicking on each buy download button beside each song he/she likes until they've bought the amount they want.

3) User proceeds to checkout and buys.

4) Upon receiving the order, I create a unique Get Me Music.com page especially for the user , containing the songs (with download links) that he/she has bought.

5) I email the user the url of the page containing the downloadable songs.

6) User clicks on the url and downloads the songs.

7) After a given amount of time...lets say 1 week, I delete the page. (user has 1 week to d/l the songs b4 the page is deleted)

8 ) The artist/band and I split the profit made by the download purchases 50-50.

So what do you think?

It could change the way music is purchased.

Thats good. but would it not be better once the person has picked his songs you put them on a CD at wav* quailty not mp3 that way the person gets his own personal cd at the highest quality

I was actually toying with the idea of "Custom CDs", but there are drawbacks....

1) I could send the purcasher his/her chosen songs by mail on a CDR, but some songs on a "common-or-garden" CDR would look very tacky and unprofesssional.

2) If I wanted to get the custom CD printed up with the GMM logo, etc, it would cost more money.

3) The consumer would have to pay extra costs that included postage and packing....and I wouldn't want to have to burden them with more costs.

Or.....

Another variation of my idea is to already have download pages already built for each song.

That way, as soon as the consumer buys a download, he/she is then redirected to the download page of their chosen song immediately, without having to wait for me to create a custom page of downloads.
