Noone is disputing that.
The thing is, The Capitol gave the OK they otherwise wouldn't have provided, had they been told the truth about WMD.
Thus the country was led into a war through a duped Congress. You cannot see the danger in starting pre-emptive wars on false premises and then excuse the action with other reasons?
Do you realize that noone is going to take the CIA 100% seriously from now on, even when they provide true intel about imminent and real threats?
The case should have been made demonizing Saddam.
The case should have ben made when Saddam was actually killing those people in the mass graves, not years and decades later.

Galmin - "The thing is, The Capitol gave the OK they otherwise wouldn't have provided, had they been told the truth about WMD."
Whose truth...yours?...the medias? Syria most likely has WMD given them by Saddam near the start of the war. Acting and talking as if it was never in Iraq is rediculous and tantamount to telling a lie...certainly one should wait and see about Syria before acting and talking the way you have in your post. I think that in time America and Bush will be vindicated in this matter...but not until after much damage is already done. It is not the lack of WMD found after the war in Iraq that is causing damage to the reputation of the CIA, but the assumption by many, such as yourself, that there were no WMD in Iraq. Can you prove they were never there? No you cannot. Not finding them now proves nothing except that they are not now there. That is a dangerous assumption for the reasons you have already stated in your own post.

France, Germany, and Russia gave Iraq all the time it needed to move the WMDs to other countries by playing their games in the UN. Saddam's WMDs are most likely in Syria. We need to wipe out Syria next.

Galmin - All that says is that the intelligence was lacking...to which I agree. It should have been guessed that Saddam would move his WMD...and steps taken to track it more carefully when he did. Then we would have at least had some evidence, though classified, and to what happened with the WMD. The only problem is that if they did do this, WE WOULD NOT KNOW ABOUT IT! The US would rather take its lumps than reveal just what its capabilities are. If you hide something from me and I can see it, but I am worried about you hiding something esle in the future, do I really want to tell you that I can see what you are hiding? No! I want you to go on thinking that I can't see it! I do not know this for sure, of course, because I have no direct evidence...but having been involved with such things in the past with the US Navy, it is completely within the realm of possibilities. I have said it before, and I will say it again...time will tell.
You extrapolate a little on this, Galmin.
Syria is definitely a matter for concern. Their black-market thugs practically control Lebanon...which is at the back door of Israel. And Syria has always been hot to get answers to the big question as to Israels possible nuclear weapons. With a stockpile of WMD of their own (nuclear or not), they represent a real and present threat to Israel.

Did you pay attention to what Senators Roberts and Rockefeller had to say when their report went public?

Two Senators does not equate to a "duped Congress"...and you must never forget the political agendas of Senators and Congressmen...especially along party lines.
