I agree with Rev. Most people who do not live in those kinds of conditions stop to think about how that kind of life, at constant thinly veiled war with your neighbor, can have an effect on the lives of all...including children. This has been going on so long that there are very few people left alive that don't remember constantly being at war. When war becomes a way of life, life becomes disposable...in the minds of all...including the children. If the Palestinians really cared about their children, they would have moved away long ago...but it is their hatred that is more important to them. They are a people, but not a nation...and Israel is both. It's past time they went to find their own land/nation.

It should be noted that this is one example of many, and should not be construed as the norm among children in terms of reasons for doing this. I posted a video here several weeks ago that depicts the norm through the eyes of many Palestinian children. They are never asked to do such things, but are encouraged to through the very culture that has been bread by the adults over many, many years...including psychological conditioning through TV, with at least one advertisement from Arafat himself. Yeah, the adults in Palestine are responsible for this kind of attitude.

What we have here is not a raving lunatic, not a religious fanatic, not a bloodthirsty killer, but a disenchanted boy. A child who attempted a suicide bombing because his friend had been killed and because he didn't like school!

And by his own account, he was not put up to it, or encouraged, by extremist adults in the Palestinian terrorist groups, but by other disenchanted youths.

Now, can anyone here please tell me - how diffusing the situation that leads to such suicide bombings, can be so difficult?

Does it really need a 30-foot high wall? and bulldozing homes? and helicopter gunships? and rocket attacks? and army incursions? Or do you think that these things year after year after year might lead to the disenchantment that produces suicide bombers?

The only way things will ever change there is if there arises a leader in the Palestinian community who will stand up to violence and advocate non-violent change. However, if a person ever would arise, he'd likely be silenced by the extremists...

There are some Israeli extremists, I'm sure. But I think that in Palestine today, extremism is more the norm than in Israel...and it's not getting any better.
