Frankfurt Airport, Europe's second- busiest, operates security checks that fail to detect passengers carrying weapons or to prevent people entering restricted areas without permission, German television station ZDF reported.



A passenger was able to carry mortars, hand grenades, mines (including a 9.6-kilogram anti- tank mine), when flying into Germany's busiest airport, ZDF reported in a program on the airport's security standards, entitled ``Out of Control.''



ZDF reporters, testing the airport's security staff, managed to access runways, hangars and approach planes without being questioned. A Frankfurt-based notary, Edgar Liebrucks, who joined the ZDF crew, is quoted as saying ``anything can be done.''
