Government under pressure over death of GSG-9 agents in Iraq
The German government continues to be under pressure regarding the deaths of two agents of the GSG-9 anti-terrorism squad in Iraq. The US Embassy gave a statement to the ARD broadcasting network saying there had been no requests by the German government to take German officials on flights to Baghdad. The government had previously explained that the men had travelled overland from Jordan to Baghdad because passage on a US military flight from Amman to Baghdad had not been possible. In early April the two men got caught by an ambush in Falluja and were killed.

Germany Confirms Death of GSG-9 Officer in Iraq
The body of a German security officer has been found, the Foreign Ministry reported on Saturday. The man, a member of Germany's elite anti-terror GSG-9 security force, had been missing, along with another colleage in Iraq, after the convoy they were in was attacked in Fallujah on April 7. The German government refrained from issuing details on why they were there or who found the body, but a spokesman for the ministry said the body had been positively identified by German federal agents and would be returned to Germany on Sunday.
