New America, Old Europe ... what a LIE

We see the 'New America - Old Europe' dichotomy all the time on posts by ignorant US neo-cons.



It's yet another lie designed to mislead.



North America's dominant neo-con culture is based on two old ideologies: fundamentalist Christianity from the 17th century and classical free-market liberalism from the 18th century. These ideologies were only 'new' at the time in relation to the old monarchist Europe that the US wished to escape from.



Most European nations today are based on the social democratic model, which combines a redistributive welfare state with a mixed economy of regulated capitalist markets and publicly owned services. This model is a European idea from the early 20th century, it was adopted by Roosevelt in his 'New Deal' programme and it was further expanded and consolidated right across Europe after WWII.



So you see, 'Old America and New Europe' is the true representation of reality.



If Bush wins and the USA is emboldened to continue with its project of securing global hegemony by the use of pre-emptive military force, in relation to Europe's current position it will turn back the clock of social evolution 2-300 years.
