Saddam's Family Lifestyles Shock Iraqis

NIKO PRICE

Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq - "The blacksmith paused from his looting of the palace to gape at a door a foot thick, and at the empty, marble-lined safe inside.

"This safe is as big as the room I rent, and I live there with my wife and two children," said Ahmed Hamza, 28. "I thought the rumors were exaggerated, but these people lived in a different world."

This house was owned by Hala Hussein, Saddam's thirtysomething daughter, whereabouts currently unknown. She had two more across the street, several across the river, and even more scattered around the city. And that was just Baghdad."

The "Game is Over"....God Bless You, Ahmed....I hope you get a big chunk of that 650 million.

You know, I was thinking about the money aspect of this, and what I find most interesting is that people see economic disparity in Iraq as wholly unethical, but we have the same economic disparity in our own country. And many of our elected leaders have profited greatly from their own actions as elected leaders (most notably I think would be Bill Clinton). The rich in this country benefit clearly from the work that poor people do, some might call this exploitation in Iraq, but here it's status quo. Even George W. will justify his hundreds of millions of dollars as the benefits of working hard in a capitalist society when in reality it's been passed down from people long since dead and he continues to grow that wealth through the proliferation of exploitation of the cheapest labor he and his companies can find.

I really don't see a big difference between Saddam and the rich in America, only a sense of degrees of unethical economic behavior. Saddam is clearly a slug (most likely a dead one now :)) but I'm not sure the rich in America can clearly pass judgment on his economic policies when they do much of the same thing, just under the guise of 'legality'.

I wasn't suggesting you were rich at all Seismic. I was talking quite abstractly, in fact, it was merely a conversation piece from a much broader perspective.

To lighten up the discussion....

KARBALA, Iraq (CNN) -- A flood of exuberant Shiite Muslim pilgrims surged into the central Iraqi city of Karbala, reviving a religious tradition that was not allowed under Saddam Hussein's rule.

Religious leaders said the crowd could reach several million by the peak of the observance Wednesday.

Saddam, a member of the minority Sunni Muslim sect in Iraq, did not allow Shiites to walk to the Tomb of Hussein, a Muslim martyr who was killed more than 1,300 years ago. Imam Hussein was the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed.

The political fervor of the crowd intensified Tuesday as earlier chants of "No to America. No to Israel. No to the Devil" gave way to "Death to America. Death to Israel."

One of your biggest mistakes is that you take things

way too personal.

It's almost like you have to defend your parking spot

or something like that.

You should try to get the broader picture.

Somebody insinuates a "threat" towards my way of life, I take it personal; most people in this country would.

Now you have the "broader" picture from my point of view.

Comprende??
