apparently they are merging with comcast and from what i have seen .........i gather this

1. they never told me a word about it.....i had to find out because of problems i was having

2. higher prices with worse service

3. no additional services..........and you'll be lucky if the ones you had/have will continue to function

4.there will be a transition period and you will have to change your email addy to @comcast and consequently all your links etc....

5. i don't know whats gonna happen with homepages and such..........but i suggest saving all your @#%$ and soon....

6. some changes in isp configs are already taking place.................i guess dns has switched to dynamic instead of static...

in other words if yer on at&t prepare for some @#%$.............

for most of us its the only thing we can get and they are gonna take mass advantage of that fact...............

please reply at my board since i may not be able to get to this one..............

i went to the at&t boards and i tell ya folks ain't real happy....................

ok i fixed it..............

1.first your gonna need to know your dns server addresses.............if you already know them proceed to step ***2.

if you don't them ..then you will need to find out .....one of the best and easiest ways is to use a little tool called.."WNTIPCFG.EXE"...if you have it i will continue if not get it here.............install it and then you can continue from here..(you should have this anyway).....download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/wntipcfg/1.00.0.1/nt5/en-us/WntIpcfg_setup.exe

ok so click on the wntipcfg.exe ...

click on the button at the bottom that says "more info" the second box from the top will say DNS servers..........

copy that down........but wait..also click on the 3 small dots button to the right of that box and the number will change......that is your alternate dns server address.........copy that down also..........now close the window and continue to step 2

***2.right click on network places on your desktop....go to the bottom and click properties.............right click on local area network.....go to the bottom and click properties....scroll down to the bottom of the scrollbox to ...."internet protocol" {tc/ip}......select it...and click properties...........

now leave your other settings alone but

at the bottom it probably says...

"obtain dns server address automatically.............this is what you gotta change................check the button that says "use the following dns server addresses.........

and type in the addresses shown by your ipconfig..........make sure they are correct.click ok ...then ok.......then shut all windows down and reboot.................

it worked for me..............some isp's require a specified dns server..................i guess in this merger they forgot to tell us that.....................

an extra tip for you geeks.........while i was messin around with my router config i found that the rip2 protocol works faster than rip1 or rip 1 compatible....on your advanced/dynamic routing tab........if you use a linksys.......at least it seems to.....;)
