1sound does the ratings of the very Artists that are elegible for their Shopping Deal. On top of that, now they want those Artist to pay $50 for the 1sound label to review their material. Doesn't anyone view this a just a little strange?           



On the one hand they rate Artist's songs without the Artists ever asking them to do so for free & in many case embarrasing many Artists, then they turn around and require $50 to review what are probably in many cases, those very same Artist's songs.

Artists do have to watch where their $$ go. There are legit expenditures in getting noticed, but anytime $$ are asked for upfront a warning bell should go off and questions should be asked.



If you're talking only about getting reviewed, more or less, there are plenty place online and off that will do that at no charge. Of course, they might not give an artist the strokes they were expecting, haahaw-haww!!



By way of example, I do reviews for Demorama.Com, an unsigned-indie artist group that's been around for awhile. I believe some of the artists find the reviews helpful in fine-tuning their stuff. Since it doesn't cost anything, the price is right, heh-heh. Of course, some reviewers use pseudonyms

(including self) to cut down on the number of severed horseheads discovered in my bed. At any rate, I think it's wise to be a bit wary re: upfront money for review services.



But the exchange of $$$ for something that should hopefully be mutually beneficial has always been a cause for asking a question or two. The M.O. itself just reminded me a bit of the "turn poems to hit songs" scam the unwary - usually the general nonmusic-biz savvy public - still fall for, to wit:

WOW that's an amazing read that 'Profile of a Dead-song Poem' thanks for sharing! I'm checking out demorama.com - very cool site. Fantastic design and yes I like the concept, I guess my new band wont be accepted for a demo though - hahahahahahahahahahaha

When I was about 13 (back in the Jurassic Era) one of my bros and I wrote some gawd-awful "lyrics" - I mean they were bad on purpose - to send to one of these 'song mills' just to see what kind of reply it got. Of course, they loved it, lol!! And all they wanted was a good amount of $$$ ($50 US, I think)to put music to the words, hahahaa!!



But the "contract" said they would share all royalties 50-50 - hahahhhaaa!!!



But that neat songwriter club card on the page would be nice to have all that preferential treatment it affords the bearer!

If you have a demo, even just a "home-burned CD, of TOL that would be fine if you ever cared to submit to Demorama for a review at all. Or if an artist(s) has 3 or more full length songs - hopefully streaming - online, that's good too. Demorama reviews only unsigned indie artists - I'm not sure if TOL is in that category(?). I've been writing/reviewing for 'em for about a year - Demorama gets a good amount of submissions of misc. genres from around the world, so it's interesting what turns up . (The submissions are assigned to, or picked at random by, the writers.)
