Do you think it is risky or unhealthy for your mate to have a best friend of the opposite sex?

No. One of my best friends is a married woman -- I know her husband as well. No risk involded and how can it be unhealthy?

Yes, that always turns bad. I have NEVER heard of it not turning bad.

my very best friend is a woman,,,

and she's gorgeous, and rich and ten years younger than me...

:)

she lives in Germany, and has a Beau of her own, so that helps to make it less weird...

But it's never really been a problem. A little uncomfortable once or twice maybe..

Does this question count if you're gay?

I don't but I know a fair number of people who do!! My best friend is a guy who I've known for years. I of course have many female friends, my last best female friend turned on me and the one before that; she died in an accident....

It's an interesting question..

Personally, if I was in a relationship, I would hope that I would be my mate's "best" friend, regardless of sex.

If that were the case, I would have no problem at all with them having close friendships with anyone else. Again - regardless of sex....

Well I do think of my partner as my best best friend in the world and they get the privilege of snuggling up to you at night - something I don't extend to my best friends regardless of gender!! :banana

That's what it comes down to, I think...

Being able to be really close to others, without sex or gender clouding the issue.

As you said.. - that has to be reserved for your one and only.....

If it works both ways, then you have a great relationship. The trust is there....

Assuming a heterosexual situation here, I'd say it's an indication of some deeper issue...not the cause of it.
