I think almost anyone who truly loves music can be deeply affected and changed by it.
Music affects emotions. Emotions affect actions. Actions define the the personality.....

I can't recall any particular piece of music that really changed my life dramatically. But different song lyrics have helped me see different aspects of life -- some of which I agreed with and other which I didn't. Some, were parallel to my own life.
One example from Led Zeppelin:
In the days of my youth I was told what it means to be a man
Now I've reached that age I'm trying to do all those things the best I can
But no matter how I try I find my way into the same old jams
Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share
Well, my woman left home for a brown-eyed man but I still don't seem to care

Over men and horses hoops and garters
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
And of course Henry The Horse dances the waltz!
Changed my life completely...

The full moon is calling
The fever is high
And the wicked wind whispers and moans. ..
You got your demons
You got desires
Well, I got a few of my own..
Dunno...
Maybe those lyrics are kinda mundane, but they've always rung true for me...
From "One of These Nights", - The Eagles....

I guess, the Who, (saw them last week ) Yes and Led Zepelin, defined the music I was going to listen to when i was about 14, but mostly, music evokes memories of specific moments in my life !
Dark side of the moon, reminds me of a girl I was nuts about, but was too shy too ever speak too.
Roundabout by Yes reminds me of a night queing for tickets.
Squeezebox by the Who, reminds me of the night I met my wife. Dreadfull song ! but hey, not much you can do about your memories huh?
I try to avoid 1984 by Van Halen, as my dad was dying.
Regards
Ian
