That's a very creative (but not new) idea



What the dude did (technically) consistently throughout the whole web-page is to actually using photographs (j-peg's) with real handwriting He simply works with mapped coordinates to create links and functionality

It is a nice layout - and a simple one, at that! Often the coolest site are the ones most simply made.



Pretty much all you need to get that design is to have a good digital camera and then make the pictures into image maps.



Each page is an image (full page image map) instead of a bunch of html or other script. The only html-javascript that's needed is to to make certain spots on the image map links to other pages.
