When I move my fingers to change notes, there's this scratchy sound from my finger rubbing the string.

I have tried like @#%$ hell to move my finger quickly and straight up to avoid this.

But I still do it.

Anyone ever had trouble with this?

This really only happens with round wound strings.

You could try a flat wound string - it gives a smooth surface for your finger to glide on. They also make half round wound strings - they are round where they contact the core but they are flat on the surface.

It really depends on the type of sound you like. I actually like the string squeak sometimes...

If you don't mind the almond-oil on the strings, try "Fast-Fret". Use it to lube up the strings before you play, and wipe off when you're done. Get it at almost any music store that deals with guitars. It really helps cut down on the squeeks for me when that happens.

Find the Hz range the squeeks reside and EQ them out with the EQ on your amp.

Ha ha, the only amp I have is a tiny guitar amp. And I mean TINY, hahaha.

I'lll try the oil, though, when I try playing again. If that doesn't work, then the strings you were talking about.

The bass I got is a cheap "Blaze" bass... I run it into the guitar amp and into my stereo for recording.
