I dug out some of my old pics from my overseas tour in 89...

Thought I'd share them.

This 1st one is off the coast of Marseilles, France. For some stupid reason, I was afraid to go ashore and see it. I had JUST arrived from boot camp on my ship and was a stranger in a strange land, as well as, a strange ship (I had never been on one, before).

More to come...

PLEASE try formatting your pics = 640x480 @ 72dpi max. resolution.

Thank you!

Not sure where this was. I think it was Palma de Mallorca Spain...

The white uniform makes it easy to remember, as we wore the blues for most of that voyage.

This last pic was in a club in Palma... My friends and I sat in there for 2-3 hours, drinking our asses off, when, all of the sudden, a shitload of teenagers ran in and started partying.

It was a teen club and we had no idea. We had our own booze (why they let us drink it, I don't know), so who knew?

Obviously, we split after that...

My buddy, Kyle, made sure I got back to the ship, because I was extremely wasted.

All of these were taken in Israel...

I got to see all of the biblical places, with the exception of Bethlehem.

The last 3 pics are the Jordan River... I bottled Holy Water and sent it to my family, although it dried up in route.

That guy was on guard, when I asked him to pose with me. I was amazed at all the guards walking around with machine guns.

The 1st 2 pics are "The Elvis Inn" in Tel Aviv. We stopped there on the way to Nazareth.

When we got off the bus, you heard Elvis music blasting..

One of those pics, I used for a CD cover. The one with me standing there...

Last in the batch of pics is Tangiers, Morocco and Alexandria/Cairo, Egypt...

This guy met us when we arrived ashore. He showed us all over town for hours.

When we got back to the boat to leave, he asked for 10 bucks a piece. We had been used to getting asked for money, but this guy really deserved it.

We gave him the money without question.

He even snapped pics for us.

The next pics are from Egypt and a couple from boot camp and a classic shot of my black eye, obtained during a night of vodka...

Needless to say, I kept my mouth shut after a bottle of vodka, from that point on...

Wow! You're a hunky looking guy!! That one of you with shades - you look like Joey from Friends! I love the photos. My Mum has visited Israel and also went to all the Holy places and loved it. Egypt - must be amazing to visit. Thanks for posting these pics, I really enjoyed looking at them. And that black eye looks PAINFUL!

The black eye didn't hurt until the next morning (the vodka kept it from hurting, just like it caused me to get it, being too drunk to fight back).

My mom freaked out when she saw it and my dad laughed at it ("So, you got drunk and showed your a__, huh?" his exact words).

She came in with a piece of bologna to put on it...

Didn't do much good, though.

Here's a couple of random Israel shots in Jerusalem...

I added color to use for CD covers.

Both of these were at the church of the holy sepulcher.

Here is the same Jesus pic from the web site.

Yeah, although I am not religious, I felt very strange, being around all that stuff that I heard about, growing up.

It was definately an experience.

I can totally relate. When I was in Paris, we visited the Notre Dame and actually attended an afternoon mass (all in French!), it was very moving to think we were sitting inside a cathedral just like many others had before, over the centuries.
