OH I SEE!! CT is Connecticut? So this poster hasn't even bothered seeing if this board is Americana orientated? hahaha Or perhaps they presume ALL ezboards are only for Americans? Or perhaps they presume the whole world knows what ct means? Or maybe I'm the only person in the world who doesn't know what ct means??? There are so many ways to presume something....

I've always wondered why it's pronounced the way it's pronounced especially cause it's spelt "Connect-I-Cut"??

Yeah, Chris, each state has a two letter code since about 1970 or so. The change was instituted by the Postal Service to make mailsorting easier, especially since people used diff/alt abbreviations and one name might resemble another.

The old abbreviations are still sometimes used, but the usage is dying out. "Conn" is the most common old abbreviation for CT.

Minnesota is MN, but the older "Minn" is still often used. That prefix meaning "water" is from the Ojibawe (Chippewa) indian tribe's language. Many places in MN use it in the start of their names, like Minneapolis. Minneapolis is abbreviated "Mpls", otherwise you could have "Minn, Minn" for city & state, lol!

Even worse - our family used to live on a street in Mpls named "Minnehaha" - that could come out as "Minn, Minn, Minn"! hahahaha
