So... I made no good points yet LOL
I am just trying to find out your preferences.
Basically... if you want a very reliable car,
offering a maximum of safety and comfort for
yourself and your family, but having limited
sportive abilities and a rather huge amount
of gasoline wasted, do chose the Mercedes E-Class.
If you want a extremely sportive car even
with a Diesel engine, where you have fun
in curves and when overpassing others,
do chose the BMW 5xx series.
If you want a car you can "beat" and which
excuses lack of service but which is swinging/
dangling like a flag in the wind, having every
5,000 miles a broken exhausting system....
...do chose the Renault.
Mercedes' and BMW's, like German cars in general,
are very sensible but high performing machines which
need a maximum of attention and proper treatment/
inspections. So basically they are expensive on the long run,
but will never cease to work, especially when it comes to
safety issues at highspeed. 250,000 kilometers with
a Mercedes or BMW without problems are realistic.
Your Renault will die sooner as a barking mess in
the ditch However, if you sell it every 2 years
and buy a new one you will report that you only
had "minor" problems IMHO

.... the most reliable cars in the world according to the JD Power reliability survey. My mate is an AA man and he tells me that he has never been called out to a Honda, Toyota or Mitsubishi in 10 years (except for petrol and tyre problems).
I bought an Accord 2.0 SE last year and I love it. Leather seats, cruise control, climate control and everything else.
My BMW 320i leaked oil into the bell-housing with 14,000 miles on the clock a few years ago - they're over-rated. Mercs are great but in England the service charges are high.

in the last Consumer Reports automotive issue American cars edged out European cars in the reliability and customer satisfaction categories. Japanese cars still win over all, hands down.
Personally, I have always prefered American cars, but I am looking for a beat-up junkyard Rolls just for kicks.
