Far East place names.....

I just stumbled across this...:



English-speakers have always chuckled at some of the curious place names in the Far East which are not at all raunchy in their native tongues. Take Fuku, China, for example, or Phuket, a popular resort area in Thailand. Even Bangkok (although noted for its sex industry) only becomes confusing to the Western-mind when known by its more poetic and full name of "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit." And, of course, we mean no offense when we can't quite suppress our smiles at hearing of the village of Dikshit, India.

"Phuket" is pronounced Poo-cat so it's not as rude as that paragraph implies. "Bangkok" on the other hand hahahaha :banana

I don't know where Fuku is in China. I do know I've been to a station in Tokyo (Japan) called Fukyubashi which I found hilarious! When we were in Malaysia - we found a "Titiwangsa' station - see:







That reminds me - did I ever post my Malaysia photos???

Do they have decent Hotels in Titiwangsa?





I'd like to visit that place.....





Fukyubashi sounds nice, also.....(but a bit Scarey....)

Are those the Twin Towers under your "Titiwangsa" sign???





I saw a Documentary about the construction of the Twin Towers on The Discovery Channel not long ago... - Fascinating stuff....
