WHERE do you sell cds? and note, that's a different question than where do you have cds for sale. i want to know where you actually SELL them. know what i'm asking? as in i have cds for sale at cdbaby and cdstreet but don't sell any. i'm looking to know where they are selling for people.

(i'm posting this on a few boards. not spamming but boards i frequent for a good cross section of answers.)

Well, me personally I sold the most CD's over MP3.com.

However, CD sales started to drop already last year.

As a matter of fact, if you ask a young girl/boy of 14 years or older today, you will hear that the majority doesn't own a CD player and walkman anymore, but a portable MP3-Player, where you can store more than 300 songs on a RAM stick....

The days of the Audio-CD are numbered though.

There is no question, that a red-book-CD sounds better than any MP3, but this is not THE argument anymore.

This is just my personal observation.

Bud, I think mp3.com is on it's last legs, too.

And yes - you have to sign up to sell.

But personally, I think trying to sell CDs online is an exercise in futility. Looking at it from a purely financial point of view, it's not worth the time and effort.

And Mike speaks truth - the days of hard copy are over.

The quandry now, is how to be compensated for making your work electronically available.

And wow - what a quandry it is.....

ya, especially a hard question for me as i have real questions in my mind about being compensated at all for artistic things. not a popular thought i know, but it's mine.

BEEN LIVE ON THIS SITE FOR 22 DAYS NOW...

He's sold 26 CD's for me since October 16th....all I did was supply the music...nothing else. No fees, no monthly payment, no nothing; just mailed my masters and upped my graphics.

Not bad, IMHO.

At live gigs! The Sisters would sell between 1-8 Cds each gig. Our performance sold the CDs. Online, CDbaby.com sells CDs every now & then - so far 18 in total (after TWO years) To be honest I've stopped promoting the CDs online as it was never profitable for the time taken.

I'd like to try Seismic's place.

Jane Eliz sold a few CDs at mp3.com when one of her song soared into the top ten (of entire mp3.com) end of 2000. But once she wasn't in the charts, no CD sales.

Javamusic.com sold some Sisters CDs but then folded before I could get the money out of them! :eek
