It's the river that feeds the canal system in Amsterdam...

the river itself runs through Amsterdam and the canals run off of it......

there is a series of very moody paintings of the river........Victor Higgens did one of them I think....it was a trend of sorts though I think it was un-intentional and the similarity of the works was noticed after the fact...I think they were all done within a decade.......this is a fuzzy memory, but I remember an artist friend of mine showing me the images...years ago.......she was lovely, and gifted.....and we were probably on mescaline......or some such thing....which is why I remember...Imprint vulnerability!!!
