Wuppertal, Germany (dpa) - A man in Germany poured ketchup over himself and placed a tomato sauce-smeared knife next to his prone body on the kitchen floor - to make his wife regret harsh words said during a quarrel.

Police in Germany said the 62-year-old Wuppertal man's suicide ruse worked until ambulance crews determined the victim was very much alive.

Then the woman's shrieks of grief turned to shrieks of outrage and the couple had to be separated to avert actual bodily harm.
