Details:
As of January 9, 2002, Back the Band will cease operation, meaning Artists and consumers will no longer be able to use Back the Band to post messages on any MP3.com Artist pages.
This change will make way for a cool new service for MP3.com Artists called the Page Topper Auction. Like Back the Band, the Page Topper Auction will utilize the upper portion of Artist pages. Unlike Back the Band, Artists pick a top-level genre for slots on ALL Artists' pages in a particular genre (including Artists on our Top 40 charts and Featured charts). If you win, your hyperlinked Artist name, song title, Lo Fi and Hi Fi Play links and message will appear in a colored horizontal bar at the top of Artist pages.
How this affects existing Back the Band messages:
Your message will remain in one of the Top Five Message slots until the sooner of: a) thirty (30) days have elapsed, or b) someone else submits a purchase request, prior to January 9, for a higher amount than yours.
All messages not among the Top Five Messages (either due to submission of a higher purchase amount, expired, or never among the Top Five Messages,) will be listed on the "Backboard" page associated with that Artist page for at least ninety (90) days. Messages on the Backboard page will be listed in chronological order (not by purchase amount).
How this affects Artist pages:
Winning Page Topper Auction slots will begin appearing on MP3.com Artist pages on January 18. From that date, through February 8, 2002, both the Back the Band feature AND the Page Topper Auction feature will appear at the top of all MP3.com Artist pages. After February 8, only the Page Topper Auction will appear at the top of all MP3.com Artist pages.
About the previous Back the Band revenue system:
Since one Page Topper Auction slot will be posted on Artist pages genre-wide, unlike Back the Band, Artists are not eligible to receive revenue for messages posted on their Artist page. (With Back the Band, as long as the Artist on whose page you made your purchase has agreed to the MP3.com Official Submission Agreement, 50% of the "backers" money went to the Artist, with MP3.com retaining the remaining 50%.)
More info coming soon:
More information regarding the new Page Topper Auction will be available on January 9, 2002, when the new auction opens. Start saving Artist Cash for this exciting new opportunity!
