"Socialism, not free enterprise, poses the greater threat to the environment."

". . . if the profit motive is the primary cause of pollution, one would not expect to find much pollution in socialist countries, such as the former Soviet Union, China, and in the former Communist countries of Eastern and Central Europe. That is, in theory. In reality exactly the opposite is true: The socialist world suffers from the worst pollution on earth."

No new news to me...Communist countries have higher GNP percentages tied up in the black market (historically). This is an indicator of many things...including mismanagement and corruption. With the situation there out of control, it is highly likely it will be out of control in other areas as well. It is graft that directly effects compliance (or not) with regulations...where graft is high, compliance is low.

Interresting article, ans. Thomas J. DiLorenzo is correct, the legacy of USSR and Communist China is one pit of vast pollution. Though the industry generating all these environmental problems is no more, it has been dismantled or cleaned up. After decades of pollution things are changing and Mr DiLorenzo should search for present information instead of writing articles based on reports from the 60's to the 80's!!

Btw, how can Thomas J. DiLorenzo equate the DOD with Socialism :D ?

DOD/Socialism . . . got me -- which industries in China have been dismantled/cleaned up?
