Women fear losing rights in new Iraq

The Afghanistan-Taleban story is going to repeat itself in Iraq. Once Afghan women were doctors, nurses, teachers, had careers, had no need to wear that awful blue headgear. When the Taleban (made up by fanatic Mujahedeen who were trained and armed by the CIA and lead by Osama bin Laden to over throw the Russians and "free" Afghanistan) came to power, women became less than dirt. Thousands upon thousands of women committed suicide there.



Well, history is going to repeat itself in Iraq if fanatic Sharia law is enforced by the Shiites who have won the elections. Women and religious minorities are going to be anything but free.

Women may have been able to vote in this election (if they felt safe enough to do so), but lets see what happens in the next few years.

It's true. In traditional Muslim society, women are not afforded the same freedoms as found in most western societies. It's part of their culture.



In my opinion, this is the single largest TRUE reason that we have so many peoples in the Middle-East that are anti-American. America, in many ways, represents the Muslim idea of western society (thanks to the TV, mostly). They see America as a threat to their way of life. Knowing that openly challenging America on this would make them appear backwards in the eyes of the rest of the world, they choose other "reasons" (ie, excuses) to push otherwise peaceful fellow Muslims into terrorist activities. Traditional Muslims find the freedoms of American (and other western) women offensive, and will do almost anything rather than change their ways of thinking. As I have said before, religious differences are not the cause...just the excuse.
