Actually it's so predictable now that there is a certain level of amusement to it...for me, anyway.

Quote: During times of war, the rules have to change a bit. Hopefully as little as possible...but it would be unrealistic to assume these detainees would have the same rights and freedoms as an American citizen...just as criminals and certain suspected criminals don't.
In a working legal system, everyone has the same rights.
suspected criminals have an immense amount of rights compared to the terrorist suspect.
Legal representation and trial with a set date are just two examples.
What is the Miranda Warning, btw?
The rights of the suspect or just an exercise in lip-service?

The US constitution doesn't segregate between citizens or non citizens, nor do US criminal law do, in regard of crime.

Times of war, hmmm. Let's see. There's "Folkrätt under Krig", "Völkerrecht" and "International Law". Same text really. The keyparagraphs implemented in the US constitution.

Quote: Show me where the terrorists have signed.
suspected terrorists. How many suspected terrorists have silently been released from Gitmo until today do you reckon? How long were they inprisoned without knowing what the charges were, not getting any legal help and for how long they were going to be locked up?
The Taliban militia, obviously the military branch of the former leaders of Afghanistan, were they terrorists or soldiers?
The 95% of the insurgents who are not affiliated or taking orders from Al Qaida, are they freedom fighters fighting an occupation or are they terrorists?
This is just as sane as the mass arrests of people of Japanese, or just any kind of Asian looking, origin after Pearl Harbour in the US.

Well, you'll have to wait for that indefinitely, because no terrorist have signed the "international law".
Let's go back to the question I had regarding how many people have been rotting away for years in Gitmo and then been secretly released without charges.

That's right...and even if they had, since they are not a nation (hence the term "international"), it would hold no water.
What we need to do is come up with a set of international rules dealing with terrorists instead of trying to make existing documents somehow fit...which they don't. A meeting between nations, similar to the Geneva Convention, would be my preferred method. I would intentionally exclude terrorists from such a meeting as they have no justification for being there in the first place. But before this can happen, there must exist global solidarity on the issue...no more denial of the problem by europe. Until that happens, we will have no international rules on how to deal with terrorists. That is how you solve the issue, Galmin...by confronting it, not avoiding it (as the europeans have been doing).

Europe is not avoiding the problem, DT.
Europe has apprehended and tried more terrorists in a year than the US will do in a decade.
Key word is 'tried'. In a court of law.

And in view of this, you still don't think there's a problem being stirred up in europe by Muslim radicals? Does the writing on the wall have to bite you in the tokus?
