"The unexamined life is not worth living."

The person who opined that bit o' wisdom? A fellow named Socrates.

That's right, Ron.

So examine yourself, your religion and what your leaders have been doing since 1948. I've already asked you to do that at least 3 times, but you refused.

btw, my blood pressure's fine and my cholesterol is low. I started cycling to work a few weeks ago and it's doing me the power of good.

No matter how laid-back, pleasant, rational and wise you pretend to be, Ron, the sort of US politics you constantly apologize for has been responsible for over 40 million deaths and a dozen devastated countries since 1948. Murdered and devastated because they didn't want to do things your way. Worse than the communists you so rightly despise - the cure's worse than the disease, eh? My daughter has just returned from Vietnam. The devastation wrought by American air strikes, she says, even after 30 years, is almost unbelievable. No matter what you say or how 'nice' you pretend to be, you cannot escape that irrefutable fact. You're global murderers, Ron, and only real regime-change in the USA will put a stop to it.

Goodbye, Ron. Your post about cowboys just phased me. You're not a bad person, you've been brought up in Disneyland, that's all.

.... done, and thanks for the advice. I'm not used to dealing with malevolent people like this on a personal basis, and I sometimes get caught of my guard with their sheer barbarity. His underlying violent nature is transparent. Debbie, these people frighten me. I really would like them to stay in their own country.

It takes people like this to drop bombs on peasants from 30,000 feet, although I don't believe that all people in the Western armed forces are like him; most join up without a clue what they're in for.

They flatter you and call you Angel

LOL, I'm not sure what they ::shudder:: do, but you are correct: all kinds of folks - of all persuasions - from around the globe most certainly think the world of Chris!

The world could use many more humans like her; she could be off going about her own life instead of encouraging, promoting and advising musicians she may never even meet. Not just in the area of music, but in the things they go through. Such as Chris' concern for Prisicilla. There's no money, glory, or even self-acclaimed intellectual fame to be had from such things. Doing good is it's own reward and a person who does good when they can is to be admired.

And, in a way, you're correct about Chris being an "angel". The word, if you follow it back, simply means "messenger". Fortunately for all of us here - Mike, the mods, board denizens and visitors, she brings a positive message into their lives.

But I'll just continue to call her Chris - I'm sure she's not dissapointed, though.

You're working with several misconceptions, Steve. One of them being that it's wrong to express simple, honest appreciation and to graciously accept kind words.

If you have a worldview defined only by diadactics, conspiracies and grand 24/7 geopolitical obsessions then it's natural that everything is seen only in that context. (Which is a wrong way to view things - but I digress)

Your other misconception is that people who have diverse ideas and worldviews should hate each other and they need to argue about which "side" is the very incarnation of His Nibs. Quite the opposite should have occured to you, if you consider yourself as having a bit of real world experience behind you.

Each one of the folks here would have a disagreement with one another about something or another.

e.g. you set Mike, Chris, Drooly, Seismo, Debbie, Larree, myself - and whoever else you wanna add - at a table to resolve all the world's problems - great and small, you'd get more ways to do it than there were people debating it. But I'd listen to Chris, explain where I think her position is correct (gotta do that first) and then go A.B.C. outlining where I believe her position is incorrect. Then she would have at me in the same manner. Picture that many times over with a bunch of people who realize that one another are not enemies, but rather friends whom they've had a better chance to get to know - and maybe even to take away abit of something they hadn't considered before.

In the end we would agree on some things and disagree on others. Then we'd have a laugh and all agree on who's turn it was to buy the next round.

Probably the saddest misconception you seem to have trouble overcoming is in taking yourself more serious than you are in the grand scheme of the universe. It's sad because you don't seem to have the ability or desire to laugh at yourself. Your ego & temperment just doesn't seem to be able to afford the luxury and fun of self-deprecating humor. I don't much care if someone laughs at me, because I beat them to it. Laughter is good for the spirit and body. Not the mean-spirited, hatred inspired laughter which we would never direct at ourselves, but the kind of laughter when we trip over our own foot or forget to turn the oven on, but don't know it until dinner when we open the oven door to view a cold chunk of raw beef.

Perhaps this hasn't made any sense to you at all. But I would hope there are things that come to mind on some relaxed night, while you're looking up at the stars as they lay out like diamonds spread on a jewelers cloth and you ponder your place in a very big universe.

"Perhaps this hasn't made any sense to you at all."

You're right there, Ron. You ramble, Ron, because you have nothing much to say. As Nietzsche said, "... those who have something to say seek clarity, those who have nothing to say seek obscurity".

"Probably the saddest misconception you seem to have trouble overcoming is in taking yourself more serious than you are in the grand scheme of the universe."

That should be 'seriously', Ron. I just thought I'd let you know because you said you were interested in language. I wish you would tell that to Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Perle, Wolfowitz et al. They're the ones invading other people's countries in an attempt to change the course of history to suit their own interests, not me. I admit to haughty arrogance and vitriol, but I'm afraid 'delusions of grandeur' is the province of the people you constantly apologize for. Wouldn't it be better if these people could just laugh at themselves, their flag and their nation a bit more? It would save a lot of lives, Ron, and you seem to take your Christian right-wing ideas very seriously yourself. I tell you what, I'll laugh at myself when I see you laughing at yourselves instead of arming warplanes.

"And, in a way, you're correct about Chris being an "angel". The word, if you follow it back, simply means "messenger"."

Ron, you need to do an elementary course in semiotics, just so you can understand the basic difference between denotative and connotative meaning and the way they work in everyday discourse. Try John Fiske's 'Introduction To Communication Studies', 2nd edition, chapter 5 on 'Signification'. I used this when I taught media studies to undergraduates a few years ago. It's a really good entry-level text.

Your attempt to centralize me in this discussion by inventing various pathologies is adolescent, Ron. This is a politics board, and the burning issue of the day is Bush's America and their attempt to dominate the world using economic and military muscle, not me. Understand?

btw, what are 'diadactics'? Taking your sentence as the context, I think you're confusing didactics and dialectics rather than mis-spelling didactics, Ron, which means that you don't know what either of these terms mean without looking them up in a reference-book or a website, which in turn means that for you the intellectual world is unfamiliar territory.

Talking of didactics, you are a classic autodidact, Ron. A little knowledge gleaned randomly from here and there without systematic learning and tutelage is a very dangerous thing, especially when it is constantly used to justify illegal invasions of other people's countries.

If you stopped spamming this board with you right-wing neo-con claptrap, Ron, I would go, really. Let's give other people a chance. I want to know what Buddhists, communists, liberals, feminists, Hindus, Africans, South Americans, Finns , Laplanders etc. etc. etc. as well as conservatives and right-wing libertarians think about world politics, that's why I came here - y'know, a REAL DIVERSITY. But all I get is you and your little neo-con gang posting the same old crap day in, day out and putting off everyone else.

Could we do a deal here, Ron?

Damn...I would have thought a man of your self-proclaimed superior intelligence could read logically.

I did not threaten to put you in a wheelchair.

I said that if you talked to people face-to-face like you talk to them on the internet, you probably would be hospitalized and wheelchair ridden; which is likely very true, and anyone that reads what you post would agree.

:toc

Now go read up on what constitutes a direct threat on the internet, Old CrockAShit.

And I see the Puppet has chosen to throw her two cents in.

Figures.

Be seeing you. :thumb

Your board moderation is very poor.

Your moderation is fine, Chris.

I have a suggestion...Chris or Mike...ban both of us.

That will solve the problem nicely, I would think.

And rid the forum of most of its trash.

Well, I had hoped the suggestions and advice would give you cause to ponder. I believe an appeal to the higher human nature to consider the lower is the best way to go about such things.

But at any rate, I will have to continue the analysis and attempt a clearer explaination a bit later on. We're still enjoying a 3-day holiday here; the fun stuff takes precedence over any "interventions".
