.... will always fail, because it puts the whole society in 'deep freeze' and stifles the intitiative of the individual. It's also true to suggest that we will never know if Soviet Communism might have eventually worked quite well had the USA not literally stifled it with the arms race, forcing it to spend over 70% of its GDP on defensive armaments. Yes, defensive, because it was the USA that threatened the fledgling Bolshevik state in 1918 (the US Army approached within 100 miles of Moscow). Personally, I have my doubts.

However, the European model of democratic socialism, which balances the market system with democratic state regulation, has been proven to work very well. Since Thatcher adopted Reagan's policies of hard-line monetarism and 'downsizing' (based on theories hatched by loonie free-market economists such as Freidman and Hayek) my country, Britain, has become a much worse place to work and live in. I'm keen to see us remove ourselves from the grip of the USA, to stop importing its economic practices, its dumbed-down culture and its revolting fast-food, and move closer to Europe.

The USA will never wake up from its political stupor until it realises that the big business classes, who it holds in great esteem as 'creators of prosperity', contain far too many vicious thugs, swindlers and scoundrels, even worse than the Soviet apparatchiks. Anyone who doubts this should start investigating the past relationships between the Bush family, the Bin Laden family, the Saudi aristocracy and the big CEOs and politicians who constituted the Carlyle Group.

You virtually wiped out a whole indigenous Native American population.

The wars the USA has either started or sponsored have caused over 30 million deaths since 1948.

You're also murdering each other at an alarming rate and imprisoning 700 out of every 100,000 of your population.

Disgusting.

Yep...makes one wonder how, at the ripe old age of 228, America is the only so-called Superpower (according to some) in the World today...

I mean, what with all the super-intelligent, highly civilized, economically perfect, politically correct, socially sensitive, we-never-did-anything-remotely-as-barbaric-as-you 2 to 5 thousand year old countries around...

...and not a single one of them can touch this. :bawling

Ahhh, well...go figure.

Seismo, please try to think about this. The way you equate 'good' with 'wealth and strength' is most amusing. Older, more sophisticated and wiser nations have grown out of this stupidity, many learning the hard way. There have been many 'superpowers' in the world, and they all crumbled into the dust. It's just not meant to be. They all did barbaric things to sustain their position as No.1 in wealth and military strength. For what? To crumble into the dust. You will go the same way, the way of the Romans. People are beginning to despise you and your own culture is becoming decadent; this is just the beginning.

After WWII, America was capable of doing something great and unique. It could have been the first nation to refuse to dominate others, the nation to begin the 'great contraction' to smaller, diverse, local and less oil-dependent economies, which could mark the beginning of a new, advanced phase in human history. Alas, circumstances dictated that it would trod the imperial path. Take it from me, old fruit, we've been there and done it, and it's the road to nowhere.

The way you equate "good" with anger and foul language is, as I have said before, disgusting.

Debbie, US politician Madeleine Albright admitted on TV that US-led sanctions in the 1990s were responsible for killing over 500,000 Iraqi children. I repeat, children. She said it was terrible, "... but a price worth paying".

I'm not religious, but sometimes I wish that I were a Christian, because then I would believe that all the cretins in Europe and America who support these monstrous policies - who think that the ability to own an ugly, tasteless SUV with a tank full of cheap gas is worth the death of children - will without doubt burn in the fires of h-e-l-l.

Passing judgement, eh? I would say that you need to rethink what it means to be a Christian.

I would say that you need to rethink what it means to think. You have not yet mastered the basics.

Still, I don't doubt they need praying for... aaach, come to think of it, I will... but I don't think it will do any good.

let's have the right wing view of christianity then...

1) Was the iraq invasion right?

2) Is killing in the name of god right?

3) Is starving poor children in the name of freedom right?

4) Is lying to go to war right?

5) Are the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people justified for any reason, whether its your own or someone else's?

6) Is selling arms to get loads of money right?

7) Is forcing your way of life on people right?

8) Is forcing Christianity on people right?

Let's have some answers from the so called "christian" right-wingers. Just some simple yes or now answers. We know what Christ preached, yes?

Let's see how different you are from the islamic fundamentalist terrorists.

I can't anwer that question (the "Right-Wing" as a group)...and I don't believe anybody can answer it for me. It is a very personal question (or set of questions), and must be answered by each person...one at a time. My answers:

1 - Yes.

2 - All by itself, no.

3 - Who's freedom?

4 - The lying part, no...regardless of the reason.

5 - For whom?

6 - All by itself, yes.

7 - No.

8 - No.

I'd like to hear your answers, Deb...since you, too, claim to be Christian. You do claim this, right?
