Britian never 'owned' Hong Kong, they leased it and the lease ran out, that's why it reverted back to China.

Debbie, I deleted my post to adhere to Mike's wishes. It is his thread and if he'd like to keep the thread limited to Hong Kong, I respect that. That's the only reason, it's not because I didn't think my points were valid or that I had interesting questions, but again, it's his thread, I'll respect his desire to keep it purely about Hong Kong.



And yeah, that leasing thing is very odd, but Great Britian worked up a 99 year lease in 1898 after global imperialism was denounced and nations were pulling out of their conquered states. Hong Kong was very important for the Brits because of trade issues and that's why they worked it out the way they did. The US did the same thing with the Panama Canal and that's why it was it was 'returned' to the Panamanian Gov't recently, our lease ran out, .

I think the low turnout on election already sends a message...that's the same as a "no" vote to me..

I'd rather not run the risk of letting that someone else get elected.......that's what a democracy is isn't it; you get to elect the best of the worst....but, hey, then you could always run yourself and run the risk of joining the club or run the risk of being like jimmy Carter, a super nice fella who didn't have a clue as to how to run a country..



Unfortunately, those that can run a country have to become politicians to do it...
