Why do Americans always forget that their roots are mostly in Europe? Our history is your history.

mike, where do you get your historical data? weimar republic lasted 100 years? let's see, as i recall the kaiser abdicated in 1918, nazi's came to power in the 1930's....

to my knowledge slaves were never killed for fun in the u.s., but the brits were hunting the bushmen in south africa for fun during that time. and aborigine population were being hunted in oz, these people were classified as vermin.

american roots are european, no doubt. but, and it is a large but, this country has been a republic since it's founding. it still is. we share little in history. the u.s. has never executed children for stealing bread...never.

lasherite :)

I try to be short in my remarks about German history.

This Forum is about the actual war in Iraq.

Fact is, that the Weimarer Republik stands for democracy

in most American minds (actually the corruption within this 'lazy' republic ended in the democratic election of Adolf Hitler (!), which usually don't have too much knowledge about the meaning of the "Frankfurt Constitution", which took place in May 1848. ;)

Rest safe, that I know the history of my country and it's democratic roots very well.

One more note...

...this time about American history.

For Europeans the USA became a democracy

in the late 1960's.

That's when black Americans got the right to vote.

You don't want to explain to me, that racism is NO

issue still until nowadays? :)

Stick to your German history...

Writings on paper and reality are two different things.

You know that very well.

Martin Luther King was just a Pop-Star or what?

"Germany was "freed" once"

Actually, the allies gave Germany freedom three times in less then 100 years, Mike. The German people(& Europe) were liberated from the Kaiser Reich in 1918, from the Drei Reiche in 1945 and, after President Reagan demanded that the USSR "Tear this wall down", Ostdeutschland was freed a few years later under the first President Bush in 1990. Germany has only been as it is now for barely a decade(zehn jahre)

; freedom is quite new compared to America, Britian and other democracies.

historical note & correction:

Weimer lasted only between the two World Wars- a good summary can be found here:

Inter-War Period 1919 - 1939

west-teq.net/~dmf/weimar.htm

So the question is:Since Germany needed to be liberated from it's own dictators by force why should the Iraqi people be denied the same help?
